Mark Joynson - Partnership & Alliances Director

Tell us a little bit about your professional work history and the beginnings of TSG

In 1984 I left school at the age of 16 and immediately joined the family business, Tyne & Wear Office Supplies Ltd as a trainee salesman (on a YTS scheme on £25 a week!)

The business was sold in 1988 to a national plc and we subsequently bought it back in the early 90’s recession.

The business changed its name and diversified and developed into a technology business providing our North East customers with IT systems and Pegasus and Sage accounting software

During that time we got to know Sage co-founder, Graham Wylie, very well as he was then Managing Director of Sage UK.

When Graham left Sage in early 2003 we asked him if he would be interested in coming on board at Joynson Ltd as a non-exec and those conversations led us on to his vision to build a national IT services business. In October 2003 we sold the business to TSG, it’s first acquisition, and we were the cornerstone of the buy and build strategy.

I’ve had various roles at TSG during my tenure and seen it grow and develop into a business I’m very proud to work for.

My current role is finding and developing strategic partnerships for mutual benefit.

What is the most rewarding part about your role at TSG?

I look at our customer list and see many businesses who we’ve looked after for well over 20 years. You can’t buy that loyalty, so we must be doing something right.

In my current role its great to meet so many different people and develop trusted partnerships which last for the long-term. There is no better compliment than a referral from someone whose in partnership with us and are happy to introduce us into their business network.
